Herb of the Month: Lavender
Lavender — Lavandula officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia
A member of the mint family, lavender has long been a prized addition to beauty preparations. Rich in flavonoids, linalool, eucalyptol, limonene, coumarins and tannins, lavender has strong anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties, making it perfect for treating acne, sunburns and dry, irritated skin.
Safe for all skin types, lavender gives the added bonus of relieving insomnia and restlessness, easing stress headaches, treating fungal infections, fading scars and relieving eczema symptoms.
To use lavender, try it in essential oil form (diffused or topically) or try the dried flowers in a tea or tincture.
